About
I am a Supervising Art Director for Film & TV, based in the United Kingdom.
I have been working within the Art Department for over 25 years.
I started as an eager Art Assistant working on Pop promos, commercials, idents and the occasional short film. Due to coming from a family that represented most trades in the construction industry I was naturally drawn to Set Building and within time became a Carpenter working for Freeform Design & Construction.
But the Art Department was still always calling and I would dovetail wearing my construction hat with Stand-by Art Direction and within time I had the opportunity to Art Direct. Due to my extensive construction and varied Art Dept experience - this was a very natural decision.
For many years I enjoyed a very close working relationship with Production Designer, friend and mentor, Paul Cross. The projects we have worked on have been broad and occasionally very explosive - projects ranging from the griminess of Luther (Series 1,2 & 4, BBC), the massive Expendables 2 (Millennium), the bitesize BBC iPlayer shorts, the unique I May Destroy You (BBC/HBO) and most recently the urban superhero drama Supacell (Netflix).
In more recent years I have joined forces with Production Designer Mr James Price. I was beyond fortunate enough to be able to work with him and the divine Shona Heath and the rest of the team to work on Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things. This mind blowing experience paid off as it was awarded an Oscar (yes) , a BAFTA, a BFDG and an ADG award for Production Design (amongst many other accolades!). We have subsequently worked on other amazing projects such as Speak No Evil and the upcoming Bugonia.
I have enjoyed facilitating the creation of these worlds - especially the more technical aspects. I’m never happier than when we have to collapse, explode or deteriorate an element within one of our environments! But, equally, maintaining some order, managing the budget and enabling our very talented crew continues to invigour me.
I unceasingly look forward to establishing further worlds - contained within the widescreen frame.
